Battery Preparation Instructions

Follow these safety steps to prepare your batteries for recycling:

1
Tape over battery terminals to prevent short circuits
2
Wrap batteries individually in plastic wrap
3
Place in separate bags if bringing multiple batteries
4
DDR (damaged/defective/recalled) batteries must be individually sealed in plastic bags
5
Power tool batteries must have no visible physical damage

Safety First

Proper preparation prevents short circuits and potential fires during transport. When in doubt, call us at (719) 799-6517 for guidance.

Batteries We Cannot Accept

For safety and regulatory reasons, we cannot accept these battery types:

Car Batteries - We do not have automotive battery recycling capability
Leaking UPS Batteries - Safety hazard, cannot be processed
Home Backup Batteries - Large residential backup systems not accepted
Electric Vehicle (EV) Batteries - Require specialized EV recycling facilities
Damaged Power Tool Batteries - Only accepting undamaged power tool batteries
Damaged Li-Ion larger than laptop size - Fire hazard, cannot be safely processed

DDR Battery Handling

DDR (Damaged, Defective, Recalled) batteries require special handling due to fire and chemical hazards. We accept laptop and phone-sized DDR batteries only.

  • • DDR Li-Ion batteries 6oz and heavier (up to laptop size) - $25/lb
  • • DDR Li-Ion batteries under 6oz (smartphone size) - $5 each
  • • Must be individually sealed in plastic bags
  • • Signs of damage: swelling, cracks, leaking, heat

Never transport DDR batteries loose or together - fire risk!

Environmental Benefits

Battery recycling prevents toxic chemicals from entering landfills and recovers valuable materials for new products.

  • • Prevents soil and water contamination
  • • Recovers lithium, cobalt, and rare metals
  • • Reduces need for new mining operations
  • • Complies with EPA regulations
